20th International Berlin Beer Festival
from August 5th to 7th, 2016
Anniversary-motto 2016: 500 years of purity regulations
From 5th to 7th August the 20th International Berlin Beer Festival is taking place at its traditional area along Karl-Marx-Allee between Strausberger Platz and Frankfurter Tor covering an area of 2.2 km. About 800,000 visitors from all over the world peacefully enjoying and celebrating the event are expected in the centre of Berlin again. 340 breweries from 87 countries are selling their unique brands of beer along the Longest Beer Garden of the World. You can stroll along 22 beer regions with their culinary specialities and enjoy live music presented by national and international artists on 19 stages. And all this is admission free.
Each year a different country, special region or motto is at the festival`s centre of attention. Examples are the Czech Republic in 2008, Belgium in 2009, and Vietnam in 2010. In 2011, on the occasion oft he 15th International Berlin Beer Festival, a new Guiness World Record was set up.
In 2012 beers of the Baltic region, in 2013 Poland, in 2014 craft-brewed beer specialities, and in 2015 Experience the Beer- and Burgenstraße were in the focus of the festival.
his year`s motto is 500 years of purity regulations presenting 2 special festival beers.The Thuringian master brewers Ralf Hohmann from - Bürgerliches Brauhaus Saalfeld - and Gunther Herrmann from -Vereinsbrauerei Apolda- have revived an old Thuringian brewery recipe, which is brewed by Thuringian up-and-coming brewers.
In honour of 500 years of purity regulations the master brewers of Bavarian -Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan - in Freisig have brewed their Weihenstephaner 1516 in a limited number of bottles. This festival beer is a naturally cloudy, brightly amber-coloured cellar beer. This brewery ist he oldest in the world. Apart from German craft-beers a great number of new craft-beer specialities from Belgium, Denmark, England, Norway and Poland can be discovered at the festival. The Barbar Honeybeer from Belgium, the Rasta Beer from Poland and the Samba do Brasil are among the new international beer specialities.
The organiser of the festival is PRAESENTA Ltd in Berlin in close co-operation with the city-district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Its ideational sponsor is the association Private Breweries Germany e.V.
